A trip to the thai grocery store... [18 May 2007|05:45am]

I was really hungry for some sticky rice, so i went straight to the source. The women at the cashier asked how i knew about sticky rice and I told her a little bit about my time spent in thailand. She was from chaing mai. Me and her started to talk about food and she told me how easy it was to make stuff. I had some recipes for som tum and said i would come back when i found it. I went home and made some sticky rice right away. It was delious and easy. I found the recipe and went back the next day. Everything seemed so cheap and I was very excited. It was shipment day, so the store was buzzying and thai was being spoking and its really unorganized. It transported me right back to my time in thailand. It was really nice. One girl that helped me get my ingeidents got her masters from the university I studied at, Thammast. her name was Angela. I went home and made the som tum, i forgot soy sause and had to us worshire sause. It was fine and good for a first attempt. Today I made homemade peanut sause and spring rolls. It was a crazy juggling act and the spring rolls were tough. But i manged with the help of a friend. I am stuffed with good peanut sause and cant want to share my new tricks with my friends. time to drink some tea.

The morning was not like anyother morning. I woke in a world run by a military coup. I had get a way tickets to New Zealand and only five hours of restless sleep. School was canceled. The day was annouced a national holiday. I hopped directly on to the internet, unsure of how my following day would play out.

The day the military coup came. [20 Sep 2006|09:10pm]
Tuesday, the 19th, my thai buddy instant messaged me and said "turn on bbc". I did. I wasnt sure what was happened, but within the following hours the pieces fell into place. Harper saved our conversation, and i would like to present in to you here in to parts. It's too long to post all at once. I think it's a good example of the confusion that occured in trying to figure what was going on and what we should do. Pictures and explainations are too follow.

[12 Sep 2006|10:16am]

Friday, the 8th, my thai boxing professor took our class for free to a thai boxing match. We got ring side seats and everything. Before we went we had a two hour review session about the history of thai boxing and the rules, regulations and preperations of the match. We are advised that if we wanted to bet money on a match to go with who the Ajhan thought would win. During the first matcch at the game my Ajhan(professor) asked me who i thought would win. I said red, and he said "F!" He speaks broken english, and in class needs a translator. He said something about remember what he taught me to look for. He is very animated when he speaks. I said we'll see. The fifth round came around, and guess who won? RED! Me and my friend ashley coloborated together to feel who was gonna win. And we won everytime for the next four rounds. I just think if i would have bet large amounts of money. I doubt i would have been so lucky. It was really fun to watch our Ajhan lose face and drown his sorrows in beer. This thrusday in class well see if he can face his losing streak of that evening.
